Who can I use my Medisave for?

Medisave may be used for yourself and your spouse, children, parents or grandparents (grandparents must be Singapore citizens or permanent residents).

Medisave can also be used for non-immediate family members (e.g. siblings or other relatives) if the patient:

is a Singapore citizen or a Permanent Resident
does not have a Medisave account or has already exhausted the funds in his Medisave Account
has immediate family members who do not have funds in their Medisave accounts and cannot afford to pay the hospital bill
is staying in a 5-8 bedded ward
is a dependant of the Medisave account holder

Is documentary proof of relationship required?

The patient and/or Medisave account holder may be asked to produce the necessary documents as and when requested by the Hospital or CPF Board. This is to allow the Hospital to verify relationships when necessary.

What are the Medisave withdrawal limits?

For Community Hospitals, the use of Medisave is subject to a withdrawal limit of $150 per day for inpatient charges including a maximum of $30 for doctor's daily attendance fees, subject to a maximum of $3,500 a year.

Medisave cannot be used for respite care.

Why are withdrawal limits imposed?

Medisave withdrawal limits are necessary to ensure that members' Medisave savings are conserved for future medical needs; especially after retirement and during old age. Also, the limits are generally adequate to cover expenses incurred in the 5-8 bedded wards fully. However, for hospitalisation expenses incurred in private hospitals and Single and 4-bedded wards of government restructured hospitals, the patient usually has to pay additional cash for the part of the bill which Medisave does not cover.

How do I go about using Medisave?

To use Medisave, you need to complete the Medisave Authorisation Form and produce the patient's and Medisave account holder's (if patient is not the account holder) NRIC/passport.
