The Spirit of Volunteerism
Having volunteered at Ang Mo Kio – Thye Hua Kwan Hospital for more than a decade, Mdm Moreen Tan continues to be as enthusiastic as ever in volunteering at the Hospital.

The affable 49 year old, who actively runs the Hospital's Volunteer Recreation Group, fondly recalls her first experience in volunteer work at the Hospital. "Ten years ago, a volunteer friend of mine introduced me to the Hospital and the work it does. Although I did feel a little apprehensive at first, by the end of the day, I felt like a brand new person," said Mdm Tan.

She continues, "The sense of achievement I received when a patient asked me to visit him again made me realize how a simple gesture and conversation brings them much joy and comfort."

Mdm Tan who recently received a 10 year Volunteer Appreciation Award at the Hospital’s Volunteer Appreciation Tea, has these words of advice for those considering volunteering their services at the Hospital.

"A touch of the hand and a friendly smile goes a long way in building up friendships," she quips.

So, come forward. Join us in our cause. And put a smile on someone’s face today. For more information on volunteering at the Hospital, please call 6453-8033
